On April 27, 2017, Dr. Judith Wellman presented "The Extraordinary Harriet Tubman: From Slavery to Freedom and Beyond" as part of the Trailblazing Women Speaker Series. The presentationw as held at the Niagara Falls Amtrak Station and the U.S. Customs House – future home of the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center. In 2012 Nik Wallenda became the first person to cross the Niagara Falls by tightrope in 116 years. He did so after receiving permission from both the Canadian and United States governments, although he was required to carry his passport and present it on entry to the Canadian side of the falls.
